The Universal Headquarters project involved a joint venture design team consisting of House & Robertson and the Office of Metropolitan Architecture, led by Rem Koolhaas, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The project aspired to break new ground architecturally and technically, and involved an international team of consultants, cost estimators, contractors and specialty subcontractors. Extensive and rigorous programming, schematic design and design development phases were completed before the project was suspended when the company was sold. The project was extensively documented in a special issue of Architecure and Urbanism (a+u) published in May of 2000.
